In September I was lucky enough to be invited by Sandals to visit their two properties in the Bahamas – Sandals Royal Bahamian in Nassau and Sandals Emerald Bay on Great Exuma.

We flew from Heathrow to Nassau, via Miami and were taken straight to our first hotel, Sandals Royal Bahamian. We were offered a welcome drink on arrival whilst we experienced a very relaxing check-in at the dedicated Concierge reception.

Sandals Royal Bahamian and Sandals Emerald BayThat evening we chose to dine in Baccarat, and sample its award winning French cuisine. It didn’t disappoint and we all came out feeling very pampered by the excellent service and the wonderful food. After dinner it was all very romantic, though we were a group of travel agents without our partners, you could see all the couples cosying up around the outdoor fire pits, listening to the excellent live band that were playing.

The next day we caught the boat across to the hotels’ private off-shore island. We took a stroll through the Zen Garden and discovered how easy it would be to find your own private part of the beach where you can snorkel, sunbathe and swim. There is also a Beach Club on the island with a swim-up bar, seafood house, whirlpool and plenty of private cabanas to hideaway in.

After a couple of days sampling the delights of Royal Bahamian, we took an early flight across to Great Exuma where we had planned a couple more days experiencing the wonderful Sandals Emerald Bay. The hotel was set on a stunning, pristine mile long beach. We were given free time to sample the hotel’s facilities and restaurants. After a morning on the beach, we managed to throw on a cover-up and haul ourselves across to ‘Barefoot By The Sea’. This charming seaside restaurant offers just the kind of food you want in the middle of the day, with excellent dishes such as Conch Fritters and Guava Duff ( you have to try it!)

One of the highlights was having afternoon tea in Café de Paris – a Parisien style Patisserie. We sat in the lovely little paved courtyard and samplesdsuch delicacies as crème brulee tarts and macademia latte. There are so many restaurants to choose from here, the downside was that we didn’t have long enough to sample them all! We could also have tried the unlimited snorkelling, windsurfing, tennis, scuba diving etc but we couldn’t fit it in between relaxing and eating!

I can’t wait to go back with my husband and do it all again but as part of a couple this time and I highly recommend either of the properties.
